Which Pokémon booster packs should I buy?
Buy booster packs from the set whose cards you actually want. Collectors chasing a particular Pokémon should choose the set it appears in, players should buy from sets that suit the events they play in, and gift buyers should choose a set built around a popular Pokémon. If you want many packs, a booster box is often better value per pack.
Choose by what you want
| Your goal | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Collect a favourite Pokémon | The set where it appears; check the card list before buying |
| Play the game | Check which cards your local events accept. Japanese-language cards may not be allowed in events run outside Japan. |
| Give a gift | A set featuring a Pokémon the person likes |
| Open lots of packs | A booster box rather than single packs |
Japanese or English packs?
Japanese packs are printed in Japanese and often released earlier. They suit collectors; if you play, check event rules first. Our Japanese vs English guide has the details.
